Not long before he died, my dad had landed his dream job as a topographer after spending years working as a line cook in nearly every restaurant, including the fast food joints, in my hometown. He was happier than I’d ever seen him. And for Take Your Daughter to Work Day that year, he brought me up in his little company’s twin engine plane as he imaged the surfaces of the desert terrain. He was so proud and I was proud of him. Ever since, I have had a special place in my heart and my memories for topographical maps.

Something about this slice of agate was calling for a topographical-inspired design. I think it turned out lovely.
