Insect and Terrarium Building

Several weeks ago Mike and I took an Insect and Terrarium Building class at the @black.moth here in Tulsa and not only had a blast and met some really great people, but learned so much too. (And this was the first time we’d ever actually done anything like this which certainly made it an adventure!) Living out in the country now, we are much more immersed in Mother Nature and her creations than either of us had ever been before, and as a result are often finding deceased specimens we’d love to mount and preserve. And admire.

Anyway, I finally got a chance to photograph mine. What do you think? Isn’t it lovely?! That beetle was absolutely massive. Personally I’d never handled an insect that big before. It took me a few minutes to get comfortable with it, I admit! Even funnier: I mentioned to Paige that when I was younger, cockroaches were my biggest fear. She proceeded to show me the tank at the front of the store that held their Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches and encouraged me to hold one. AND I DID.
Proud moment, my friends! I’ll post some pics in my story!

Anyway, this is my terrarium. What do you think?

Thank you again to Black Moth in Tulsa for a fun, wonderful and educational night!
